Seeking to put God’s love into action, Dallas County (Iowa) Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. We work in partnership with generous donors, sponsors and volunteers to preserve homeownership through affordable home repairs and provide affordable homeownership for qualified low-income families. We are a uniquely local philanthropy welcoming all to join us in building a better Dallas County and a better world—one where everyone has a decent place to live!

Serve 15 local families in Dallas County communities through Rock the Block® repairs or improvements.

homeownership
We are a non-profit housing ministry that sells new or renovated houses with affordable financing to qualified low-income families in Dallas County. We serve 30-60% of the area median income. Our Partner Families are based on criteria that does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, creed, color, gender, religion, physical or mental disability, national origin, or family status. We serve people in need of decent housing regardless of race or religion.

the Need

Families must earn between 30-60% of the area median income and live in cost-burdened or substandard housing.

payment

Families who partner with Dallas County purchase their home from Habitat with an affordable mortgage.

Partnership

Families complete 300-400 hours of sweat equity helping build their home and completing a financial education course.

Rock the block
Rock the Block ® provides a path for homeowners, organizations, volunteers, and Dallas County Habitat for Humanity to come together to assist low-income residents with needed repair, maintenance, weatherization, safety, accessibility and beautification of homes. Residents that qualify for Rock the Block ® services are given access to critical home repairs, weatherization, and home preservation projects.

the Need

Families must earn between 0-60% of the area median income and own their home.

payment

After a complete home assessment our staff will determine what, if any, repayment is needed.

Partnership

Partner families are required to complete a minimum of six (6) hours of sweat equity, and one financial literacy session.

During Rock the Block ® neighborhood revitalization events, volunteers, sponsors organizations and Habitat staff will work with qualified homeowners on home and neighborhood improvement projects like:

mission

Know or be willing to become knowledgeable about Habitat for Humanity’s mission, purposes, goals, and programs.

Prepare for and participate in committee meetings, asking timely and substantive questions, and maintaining confidentiality when needed.

Help Habitat set and meet goals by reaching out to businesses, churches, civic groups and individuals to educate and involve them in our work.
